Reassuring news from Rowle last night. The Treasury is still in our hands, though it would be prudent to assume it will be targeted.

Also, Rod is in. Though not without concessions.

Were you looking forward to being doted on by that pretty thing? Having children surround you and call you "Papa?"

Rod's wants and desires have always been singularly contradictory. He didn't want a doting, gentle wife to grow flowers in the aboretum, but he didn't want a wife who hadn't the patience for massaging his pride, either.

The sooner I can handle him as another associate and not a husband, the better.

That seemed a different time, when I married. And then, you're right, abruptly it was not.

She was pretty and she did dote. It wasn't unpleasant. Yet. I suspect it would have lost its charm. And I can't begin to imagine sprogs calling me anything. Expect I'd have made exactly as awful a father as mine did.

Consider that I've dodged more than one curse in the last fortnight. Marriage and family amongst them.

Believe you and Rod will make fine associates.

Almost everything loses its charm. Except the few things that don't.

Sitting behind a desk, for example, has lost its charm very quickly. When you've finished for the evening, find me in the Palace salle.
