Unfortunate news. Our liaison to the goblins has confirmed that the Treasury is no longer in our hands. Every single knut belonging to the Protectorate was housed in a single vault kept in the lord protector's name. Harry Marvolo was the heir to that vault, and Harry left all his worldly belongings to Draco Malfoy.

There are back-up assets in place. Be assured, and assure everyone else, that you will still get paid.

Do not bring any more attention to this matter than necessary. Stick to the message: the Order and their supporters will eliminate magic for everyone who doesn't subscribe to their extremist view. I want one of the Ministry staff on the WWN later today describing what the null-zone feels like. Two or three members of staff, even better.

Alive: she cannot be legilimised. Will she have means of self-immolation on hand? The commitment to use it?

Is there any way that she might be broken and bent to our purposes? You've worked with her more recently and more thoroughly than I have and can speak to this.

Dead: the phoenixes lose a key and powerful asset. Rodolphus will not like it; this doesn't concern me but does it concern you?

I do not believe she would break any more than you would were it you who were captive in enemy hands. She sustains injury without giving sign or satisfaction. I have no illusions that we could turn her or tap her knowledge of the phoenix to any meaningful extent.

It may not be necessary to kill her in order to take her, but once taken, death will be inevitable. The question is whether you reserve the right to deliver it. I will defer to you, obviously, if you wish that.
