Alert from Jennings: Suspicious canine Animagus at Ponds shop, Doughty Conduit.

I'm leaving Buckingham now. Pull Truncheon, Crannock, Fracas, Beaker, Covington, Zuckerman, Painter, and Boyde.
Expect you may have heard by now, but if not, I'll summarise: Draco attempted escape by Apparating to the Argyll camp. Snape pursued and killed Draco before he could reach safety. Neither the camp guards nor Lamont and Montague were successful in stopping Snape, and he remains at large.

While taking Lamont and Montague's reports, Mulciber arrived and retrieved the body without notifying me. Those same camp guards allowed him to do so. Both guards have been permanently relieved of duty.

Enforcers believe they found a safe house a few miles to the West. I need to examine the scene, but meanwhile, Mulciber must give over the body. I'm counting on you to convince him.
Both of you -

I'll be onsite within the hour. Have already told Montague I want the report again, in person. So that you can tell me to my face exactly how you failed to either prevent the death of my nephew or the escape of a wanted fugitive.

Be waiting.
I have spoken with our Lord.

He has agreed that for the next fortnight, Draco be deemed a Person of Interest wanted by MLE for questioning. If Draco cooperates, surrenders to said questioning, and provides information of use, he will be pardoned of all charges.

But if Draco is not captured or does not hand himself over in that fortnight, then it's you, Lucius, who will answer for his crimes.

Do you accept?
Cissy, Lucius -

I regret that I bring bad news. However, I bring it with the intent that you may prepare yourself for what's to come.

Tomorrow morning, they will put out an arrest warrant for Draco.

Now. If you have recovered from that unpleasant shock, I will share with you my knowledge of the various reports, as I feel it only right that you know precisely what was found in the course of the investigation. I am aware that you both have held fast to the hope that Draco was taken from the castle as captive. Perhaps there is even some truth to that, as the connection between Draco and Snape remains purely speculative rather than certain. However, what has become certain is that Draco will be charged with willfully engaging in miscegenous activities and exposing a legal nonperson to the magical arts.

Minus official jargon, the evidence is as follows:

PHYSICAL

Letters - The mudblood's correspondence could not be determined as authentic, since there are few samples of its handwriting. Handwriting analysis, parchment-matching, and ink-matching all determined that Draco's was authentic and non-forged. The contents of the letter (which I will spare you) leave no doubt as to the writer's romantic intent.

Recordings - These were obtained by Teddy Nott Jr., who before his death claimed to be collecting them out of a suspicion that Draco was romantically interested in the mudblood, or vice-versa. Only after capturing the recordings did Nott Jr. determine that Draco was teaching it magic. The recordings are both visual and aural, and of good quality. They were captured using magically charmed mirrors similar to those used by MLE in our own surveillance, and feature a tamper-proof time and date stamp. Nott Jr. claimed to have cut out the "insignificant bits." What is left confirms that Draco and the mudblood were in a "hidden" room together on at least fourteen occasions in the last six weeks. They usually arrived and left this room separately, but on two occasions arrived together, and on one occasion left together. In those times they left and arrived together, they can be seen speaking to one another. The transcript of their conversation was not determined as condemnable; the frequency of their meetings, however, was, as was the fact that it took place in a location that was inaccessible to others. After much searching Investigators did find this hidden room; it seems to be a storage space of sorts, full of abandoned rubbish. Experimentation with the room revealed that the room is only accessible to others when it is empty, or when the occupant is expecting someone else to arrive.

Colocation Devices - A set of boxes, one transfigured into a ring, designed to allow the passing of objects from one box to the other. The ring-box was found on Draco's finger, and a second box was found in the mudblood's sleeping area. Harry's testimony confirmed he also owns a box of this nature (given to him by Regulus Black), which he has not used in some time, and that a fourth box was stolen from his trunk some months ago. Nott Sr suggested that his son intercepted the letters (see above) using the fourth stolen box.

Wand - The mudblood's illegal wand, which it claimed to have stolen from Buckingham, is over one-hundred years old (Ollivander's work) but is in good keep. There are no records of a wand having been stolen from Buckingham since the mudblood came under Harry's ownership. P.I. indicated that the last five spells ranged from intermediate to highly advanced, suggesting that the mudblood had been either well-trained in magic, or (more likely, I think) had someone else demonstrate advanced spells to it using the wand.

Rings - Draco and the mudblood both wore rings on their left ring finger. On first glance they appear to have nothing in common. In-depth study revealed that they are in fact made from the same materials, only designed to look different; both, too, were imbued with a spell to make them largely unnoticeable. On my first search of the mudblood, I in fact missed the ring, and did not see it until it later animated. Draco's ring was in the shape of a dragon, and quite expensive in appearance. The mudblood's was a snake, and quite plain. The rings are designed so that the wearer can, in effect, poison and kill him or herself through nonverbal magic, should the need arise. These are not toys: the wearer must be in genuine fear for their life, at which point the animal comes to life and bites the wearer, injecting him with three poisons. Not only did both rings have the same function, they were also crafted by the same person: a witch, young in age. Possibly with the guidance of one extremely skilled at potions.

TESTIMONIAL:

Various Students - For brevity's sake, I won't list them all here. In the course of questioning, Penderyn determined that Daphne Greengrass, widely accepted as Draco's current girlfriend, was aware that Draco was keeping dangerous secrets from her, but was unaware of what those secrets were. Greengrass and Pansy Parkinson were also questioned extensively about their romantic interactions with Draco; neither felt he had any unnatural impulses, but neither have had sexual relations with him, either. Hydra Lestrange revealed that she was giving Draco occlumency lessons at his request, but that when they began those lessons, he already had some skill in the area. She did not know whether he came by the skill naturally or had been taught by someone else.

Bellatrix Lestrange - In the course of my initial questioning on Saturday, 7 June, Draco occluded rather than submitting to legilimency. Even when I assured him that he had nothing to hide, he continued to occlude, though denied that he was doing so. The mudblood did not successfully occlude under Hydra's interrogation, though Hydra did report that the mudblood made an attempt at it. It is well known that Severus Snape was a master occlumens who was also skilled at spell-cast legilimency, providing him with the means to effectively teach occlumency.

OTHER:

- The journal archive was torched. Enough said.
- There are multiple anecdotal reports of Draco being called in to assist "Milland" in unspecified ways, often involving detention; however, there are no official records of those detentions, nor any record of Draco having lost house points.

When taken as a whole, the above evidence is more than enough to justify arrest, interrogation, and a hearing with the Wizengamot, who - barring veritaserum evidence that reveals otherwise - would surely find Draco guilty of all charges held against him.

I apologise that I must be the one to deliver you such unpleasant news. Know that aside from my own testimony, I have been only peripherally involved in the investigation, lest my involvement only serve to further incite Nott and Mulciber.
Advance warning:

Tonight, I will be writing to my sister and her husband in advance of official news. Wright and her team have finished up at the school, and I've been passing my eyes over final reports from Quartermayne, Gibbon, Pugh, and Revanche.

By tomorrow morning, MLE will pull an arrest warrant for Draco. He'll be a wanted fugitive, not a kidnap victim, though I do plan to reassure my sister that MLE will perhaps grant a full pardon in exchange for surrender under veritaserum.

One wonders how a child raised in such an ideologically pure home could be led so tragically astray.

I've seen it before - up close, even. But times were different then. Muggles and mudbloods crowding in on all sides, impossible to escape.

Even by serving us, as our Lord deems right and proper, they can still reach us. Should He feel compelled to exterminate them from our haven, once and for all, I would gladly squash the vermin from His sight.

Now. I anticipate that Lucius and Narcissa will respond with a level of denial and outrage that can only harm their already precarious position. We do not want that further weakened. Be prepared to assist them in keeping their heads.
The mudblood's confessed to stealing the wand from Buckingham, was learning magic all on her own, apparently. So she says.

Now, whether Draco has a hand in this or not remains to be seen. Let me speak with him. I'll convince him that if he confesses to having been seduced by the mudblood, and at least "entertained" ideas about teaching her magic, that we will sort this out amongst ourselves. He'll believe me.

I'll give you the mudblood. I'm done with her.

Let my daughter watch - she still has much to learn.
Hydra,

A series of unfortunate happenings have brought me to the castle today. It seems that your cousin may have been caught up in some unsavoury activities.

Now. Mummy would like your absolute compliance in what comes next. No questions. I will fill you in on what is necessary for you to know. Let's test just how strong your abilities - and stomach -are, shall we?

I've a plaything for you. We're in Tosha's offices. Come alone and tell no one.
Raz, Tosha -

I'm leaving for Hogwarts within the next quarter hour. Raz, prepare your floo, please. I'll have Delia Forney with me. Do not alert the Headmistress nor anyone else.

-B
Hydra -

You may well note that both your father and I have refrained from communicating with you via the journals ever since your trial began. This is intentional on my part, for it would not do to impress upon your patrons that I am the one guiding your every move. (Does that small one, Moon, believe that his exchanges with Tosha go unnoticed, or that they are dismissed as pertaining solely to classroom query?) However, it would not do for your patrons to believe me entirely removed from the outcome of your initiation, either. If they possess any kind of insight at all, they will have already surmised that I am most definitely invested, and that only one outcome is possible. Nevertheless, you must prove that your actual worth is equal to that which is suggested by your family name and reputation.

As word of your legilimency skills spreads - as it no doubt already has - you will find that people approach you with caution. They will flatter you, be on their best behaviour, or else quickly find an excuse to depart your company. Expect to lose many friendships. People will not trust you, but it doesn't matter, for you will soon learn that no one can be trusted, anyway. Not even those you feel closest to. The only one you can trust is yourself, and your Lord. Remember that my gift came to me at a younger age than it did you, and these are lessons that I learned well, and learned early.

Knowing you as I do, I'm sure that you doubt my words of caution. Give it time and you will see for yourself that I am right. Examine the thoughts of those you admire most and you will soon discover that inside the mind of every person crouches a low and frightened animal that fights only for itself. All thoughts of community, tradition, and righteousness are ideals that crumble in the wake of its own base needs. As much as its mouth may verbalise the opposite, as much as its mind may even try to convince itself of the opposite, in the end it will always give in to that animal. I have the experience to know this, and know it well.

In truth, though, I do advise you to drop into the heads of your friends and little mates, now and again. You are in a unique position to monitor their changing adolescent thoughts as they are exposed to the world around them. Bear in mind that a rebellious thought here or there does not a traitor make; patterns create bigger pictures, though, and bigger pictures leave us with stories. You will, at times, know someone else's story better than they do.

Which brings me to you, my daughter. I know very well how you see yourself, and how you fight to cast yourself as my opposite. Soft as I am hard, and cautious as I am bold. You do not see how in casting yourself as my opposite, you've built yourself entirely in my shadow. You have no mould, other than the one that made you. I saw what you were, as a child. I knew I would have to drive out the fear in you. That streak of sentimentality you inherited from your father and from my sister - I knew there was little to be done with that, but that shrinking, timid nature... I knew I could banish it. I could be the one to make you see you had no reason to fear anything.

Mind, there have been times when I wondered if I had failed, if your father's and aunt's interference hadn't spoiled you irreversibly. But when He chose you as His vessel, and when He used you to open the chamber, to wake the beast, I realised that I had succeeded, after all. For who else would be more perfect for Him than someone completely unafraid? Someone untainted by the immense greed of self-preservation?

You are fearless, as I am. There is no low, frightened animal inside you - it's long been dead because I killed it.

You can hate that about yourself, as I suspect you might. I advise you to forget about it. Those feelings are just echoes of a death rattle, and they will leave you in time.

Now, do continue to study those books that I've sent you. Should you have questions, I am willing to answer them - within reason. A degree of self-discovery and initiative is to be expected. After all, I had no one to tutor me, and I consider myself better off for it.

I await news of your progress.
All finished here. The muggle's mind was clear as water, and while his memory for specifics and names is not as desired, he has as an especially good memory for faces. None of them are known to me but they'll be known to others, no doubt.

Hopkirk, the sketch artist will be up within the hour. Get posters around NL by the AM. Wanted for Questioning Re: Dogstar Plotting, etc.

Barty - Busy? Let's go for a run.
Wands up. Need two teams: chart course ENE from Hull, one for Stavanger and the other for Bergen.

Ward breach. Will fill in with more as available.
Tell me this, Barty.

If you look beyond all the treasonous blasphemy that pours forth from dead man Black's screed, would you say that therein lies an accurate description of the events that took place at Hogwarts yesterday morn?
My Lord,

We have a clutch - caught them just as they were in the last stages of concocting multiple, high-powered explosives. Early interrogation suggests that there are other cells working on the same weaponry... more details pending.

Requesting all hands that You can spare, as swiftly as possible.

In Your Name, as always.
While I have a moment:

Well done. Could use you on my current.

Did the duckling bring anything to the table? Or was she a squalling thing, constantly underfoot?
The team has been out since early yesterday morning, divided into partners. South New London, mostly, keeping near the council estates and the pubs and shops between them. I've planted myself in observation distance. They've been instructed to perform the reversal spell with discretion, but I want to see for myself that they're not pulling up every rat and pigeon they run across. Especially Harkiss, desperate as she is for Foxe's commendation. And to avoid yet another re-assignment.

This sausage roll is absolutely disgusting. Inform Braithewaite and the rest that we're moving luncheon up to eleven.
My Lord, I deeply regret contacting You at so late an hour.

I humbly beg a meeting with You this very night, if only You will allow it.

I have news from Level 13, which I prefer reach Your ears via me alone.

As always, I await Your call.
Braithewaite and I standing by with the rest for V5.02-S5 execute in appx. 3 hrs.

Note in preliminary report: Will compare vitals to those of V5.01-S5, taking into account differences in time-line. Subject will be in lupine form when B.C. set to expire at appx. midnight tomorrow.

Tell someone to bring down tea.

XXV

( Jan. 1st, 2012 04:24 pm)
With each new year comes more glory to the Protectorate, all thanks to the grace, foresight, and leadership or our Lord and Protector. Let us take this day to reflect upon the gifts he bestows upon us: honour, freedom, and pride.

Thanks also go out to family and friends who welcomed us to parties and other gatherings this season. Your heartfelt generosity is thoroughly appreciated.

As for 1995...

The very best is yet to come.
Hopkirk, please add to Saturday's finalised records:

V5.01-S5 (completed on 10:16, Saturday, December 10)

Changes noted: in lupine form, attending healers saw subject's vitals improve and bleeding slow. Back in human form vitals worsened again, showing no difference from previous variables. However, Pelton's report today verifies tissue changes when compared to earlier subjects. Attach copy to finalised record.

V5.02-S5 expected to execute January 9.
